A group of agents and leadership from Coldwell Banker Burnet’s Hudson office recently served dinner to a sizeable group of people at Grace Place, a shelter in New Richmond, Wisconsin, that offers temporary housing to families and individuals in the St. Croix River Valley area. Hudson office volunteers contributed all the dinner meal items, making the effort easy and fun.
The Hudson office volunteer group received a guided tour of the shelter, which made the experience even more meaningful for them. Sales Associate Sara Nielsen said one gentleman came into the kitchen, shook her hand and thanked her. She also met a resident who shared his story of being on top of the world and having everything one day, losing his job the next. He then became very ill, was hospitalized for many weeks and ended up with almost nothing left.
The resident told Sara that Grace Place saved him. He also told her that people don’t realize how often the homeless come to the shelter having not eaten in days. He’d seen people brought to tears after getting a home cooked meal. The resident wanted Sara to know how a simple gesture like providing a meal can make a big difference.
